We saw signs for this old gold mining town between the north and southbound lanes on the highway, so we finally decided we should drive through. The kids weren't very impressed, but it was cool to see and only took a couple of minutes to drive through.

We decided to walk a little bit around Rapid City this morning and check out some of the statues they have. We happened across Main Street Square. It's a very neat park with a splash pad for the kiddos. It's much too cold today to get wet, but the kids had a lot of fun doing pushups, and playing tag with some other little kids.
Across the street from the Main Street Square is the Prairie Edge Gallery. It's like 3 stores in one, but the most fascinating part is all of the Native American art. Brandon kept the boys at the park while I took a quick look around. I wish they could have come in, but I was much too worried about the boys breaking something!

Our walk was to check out a bunch of these presidential statues. The boys were upset that Barack Obama wasn't one of them, but were really excited to find George Washington, even if the only way to get a picture of him is with Seattle's Best! The children love these statues and Emery loved the ones with pets!

Daddy really wanted to check out the self tour of a Minuteman Missile Site. The kids checked it out for awhile, before they got a little crazy. Brandon enjoyed calling in to hear all about these sites.
Badlands climbing! After asking every single day, the kids finally made it back to the Badlands. Boy, did they have fun climbing these! As you can see from the middle picture above, the badlands are composed of very crumbly dirt. I don't understand why they haven't just eroded away.

The visitor center here is really cool. They have paleontologists working onsite. Aiden really appreciated the hard work they were doing.

We were told that we might be able to get some climbing in at the Sheep Table Mountain path. We never found a walking path, but did drive to the top of these! After coming back down we let the boys out to climb a little on the smaller ones and took a picture of a buffalo herd that we saw by them! This place was a little eerie to climb as it is definitely off the beaten path. There were lots of holes with a huge possibility of rattle snakes. The boys climbed a few minutes and were ready to go. It's amazing how fast the sun will get to you on this dry rocky land!
